| The Boudica Tour: Woman Reconstructed, supported by Mentor Medical Systems, is an ambitious and controversial touring exhibition of nude body casts of women after breast reconstruction. The artwork, created by award winning artist Michelle Payne, is inspirational, sometimes poignant and ultimately challenges our preconceptions of women living
with cancer. The tour celebrates the fortitude of ordinary women, all of whom have undergone mastectomy and reconstruction. Each body cast illustrates the truly empowering stories these women have to tell. Its aim is to raise positive awareness of living with breast cancer and to encourage patients newly diagnosed with the disease to investigate the treatments and operative choices open to them. The Tour is also a tribute to the work and care of the surgeons, doctors and nurses who work in this sector and who support the need for more available information and positive messages. The Boudica Tour: Woman Reconstructed, is inspired by the remarkable book The Boudica Within, by consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon Elaine Sassoon and published in 2007. She is an internationally renowned surgeon and pioneer in breast cancer treatment and reconstruction.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to purchase copies of Elaine Sassoon's book The Boudica Within from her website at www.boudicawithin.com. 50% of the purchase price from every book sold from the site will be donated to the charity Breast Cancer Haven. It is anticipated the promotion will raise £1500. Paul Arengo Jones, Chief Executive, Breast Cancer Haven said "We are delighted to be involved with the Boudica Tour which raises awareness of women living with breast cancer. At Breast Cancer Haven we offer free support, information and complementary therapies to anyone affected by the disease and believe that there is very much life after cancer. We are very grateful that 50% of the proceeds from the remarkable book will go to Breast Cancer Haven." Breast Cancer Haven is a registered charity no 1061726. |
